What’s the first thing that comes to mind after reading the following scenarios?
Your caught in the rain with no umbrella.
A co-worker continuously steals your food from the refrigerator.
Your stuck in traffic on your way to work.
Your boss overloads you with tasks that are not in your job description.
A close family member dies.
Your parter cheats on you.
You loose your wallet on the train ride home.
A dog chases you down the street.
Now what were the thoughts that came into your mind?
I can bet they were negative thoughts.
and this is
Negative thoughts are the first thoughts that pop up in our minds, a few no doubt mingled with expletives and heated emotions.
Its a FACT!
As humans we are habitually negative.
In every unpleasant situation the first thought that creeps through the crevices of our minds is usually a negative one.
Now this can’t be said for all humans as I have met some of the worlds most optimistic people.
My mother for instance got held up in her pharmacy many years ago. The thief grabbed her and held a machete to her throat as he made his demands. Throughout the ordeal she remained calm, and afterwards all she had to say was how grateful she was that her life was spared.
I know its a hard thing to do, but it can be done we can change our thinking.
Think positively about every unpleasant situation for 21 days.
Thats all there is to it.
It wont be easy, but thats exactly what the doctor prescribed.
Only 21 days!!!
That doesn’t seem like a long time. Its exactly three weeks.
Three weeks of positive thinking.
And as aristotle rightly said
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
I honestly believe the same can be said about positivity, as it too can be made a habit.
