Happy Earth Day!

I am an avid supporter of recycling and protecting the world…. OR….. so I thought until I was placed in a situation where reference was made to ‘earth day’ and I had absolutely no clue as to what it was!

I was ashamed, because as a self confessed believer of saving the planet, I should have known. Shouldn’t I?

In my defence however I really dont think the world needs a specific day!

I am from the school of thought that believes “if you abuse it you’ll loose it!”

So EVERYDAY I try my best not to dish out abuse to the environment.

However Its really nice that mankind can come together, even for one day to recognise  how important it is for us to take care of our home.

I went and did a bit of research (which really means I typed Earth day into wikipedia) and found out that Earth Day was thought up by Gaylord Nelson, a past U.S. Senator, after witnessing the negative effects of a massive oil spill in1969.

Since then Earth day has steadily grown in popularity and is now celebrated worldwide.

Now I like a good cause (hence the reason I blog about positivity lol) so I felt really left out as I didn’t do anything today in regards to “Earth day”.

However I’m glad that the lifestyle I live is one that respects not only the people around me but my environment and the world at large!

Heres a few examples of what we can do to persevere our home.

  •  Voice your opinions about the environment.
  • MONITOR YOUR ELECTRICITY USAGE.
  • Plant a tree or other plants.
  • Use refillable bottles for water.
  • Reuse what you can.
  • Plan your trips and combine as many errands into an outing as possible.
  • Dont be a litter bug

The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected, like blood which unites one family. All things are connected.

Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.

  1. Vincent I am glad you took the time to educate all your faithful readers about the origin of Earth Day. I like the examples you gave as to how to to persevere our home. Daddy did observe Happy Earth Day today because he cleaned his farm and planted some yam hills. Hence he planted something on Earth Day. You are becoming an excellent writer. I am one of your faithful reader. Luv Mom.
